Early Holiday Cheer

Michael Shoup - This Christmas

Happy November, my friends.  As we get closer and closer to the Holiday season [who am I kidding, some of you have already started decorating… go on… you know you have], I find myself searching for that ONE Holiday tune that’ll set the mood for the season.  A few years back, I decided to make my own instead, and now I’d like to share that with you!

From now until January 1, 2012 I’m giving away my cover of the Holiday classic “Angels We Have Heard On High” on my Website… right here… as in, go grab it now.  I hope it sets you in the Holiday spirit as we move into the season of baking turkey, battling lines at shopping malls [not for me, thank you Amazon], and being thankful for all the loved ones around us, just like I’m thankful to each of you.

Song-A-Week. Submit Ideas! http://blog.michaelshoup.com/submit

Welcome to the 8th episode of Song-A-Week!

This week, I had two people submit ideas via my blog on Tumblr which were very similar [thank you “christaking” and “blessingsforthebrokenhearted”] and asked for a song about letting go of a past relationship.

One of my favorite songs off my newest record is about just that thing, so I decided to record for them this acoustic version.  ”Last Goodbye” epitomizes that point in a relationship where you’ve realized that it’s just not right, but you’re still having to convince yourself to let go of it.

I hope you all enjoy this interpretation, and just for this week, you can grab BOTH the acoustic and full band / album versions of this song for FREE via the links above.

Big thanks to Danny Young and Paul Shearer for adding their talent to this week.

Lyrics and Tech details below!

LAST GOODBYE

Nothing left to say
All my reasons behind me
So you go yours and I’ll go my way

Every step I seem to take
Is further from where we begin
And closer to I’ll start again

Chorus:
So maybe life’s not right
For what this love has got in store
One last goodbye
Is all I waited for
But I’m not anymore

But I keep finding you in a memory
All tied to
Tied to the best pieces of me

I always seem to play the fool
And wind up broken hearted
But I can’t tell just where it started

CHORUS

Everyone keeps telling me
The past is practice
And I just can’t keep killing time
While I get past this
Again

CHORUS
